The 2006 Shepherd's Conference

Last night was hands down the greatest sermon I have ever heard on the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15. John MacArthur formerly preached five sermons on this one text and received the challenge to condense it all into one sermon and give it to us. It was powerful. I saw the parable like I never have before, the principles of exegesis and hermeneutics which I learned here at The Master's Seminary applied beautifully toward a Christ-centered exposition of the Scriptures.

This morning I heard Mark Dever, pastor at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., preach on the subject of unbelief. From John 12 we learned of the nature, core, and reasons for unbelief in the gospel. In it we were reminded of the sovereignty of God in the incapacity of the lost to believe the very thing they are commanded to believe. In short, the glorious purpose in this sovereign plan of God is the substitutionary atonement of Christ.
